I wonder if Jake Deitchler or Jake Salazar went to an intensive wrestling camp. I went to a few wrestling camps, but most of them were technique camps. The intensive wrestling camps usually are for 2 weeks to a month, focused on nothing but training and wrestling, and are physically and mentally grueling. I know someone that was an average wrestler is junior year, and then made it to 3rd place in the state championships his senior year after going to an intensive wrestling camp. Almost every state champ, like Jake Deitchler and Jake Salazar go to as many as these wrestling camps as they can.
I really miss wrestling now. I know at the Jack Spate’s Wrestling Camp they have to do a 10 mile run on the last week of camp. It is an intense and hard experience, especially since wrestling season is not until the winter time. Unless everyone trains like that all the time, many wrestlers are bound to lose their conditioning by wrestling season. It is hard to keep training hard like that all year not because of the fact that you get lazy, but because you don’t want to break down too much muscle and you also want to be in great shape and mentally tough. It is always a battle in wrestling between endurance and strength, unless you are naturally gifted, like Jake Deitchler and Jake Salazar, or like from my state, Ryan Needle, and you can take down just about anybody.
